Four Tips For Choosing Bearded Dragon Habitats
All owners need to provide their bearded dragons with a proper habitat. Before you run out & buy the first one you see consider a few things first. This article will give you a few tips for choosing bearded dragon cages.
Material
The type of material the enclosure is made from is very important. It’s best to look for one made of glass or wood. Wood & glass effectively retain heat.
Wire cages don’t retain heat so you should avoid them. Also your dragon may injure his nose or feet if he’s kept in this type of cage. If you must get one of these cages look for one that has plastic-coated wire.
Lid
You will still need an enclosure with a lid although bearded dragons don’t like to climb a lot. Your lizard will certainly climb towards the opening if he sees it’s a way to freedom. So always get a lid. You also need to ensure that the lid fits tightly. This will prevent the dragon from pushing it open.
Size
The most important consideration by is size. Your beardie will be unhappy & unhealthy if you keep him in an enclosure that’s too small. Dragons up to seven inches long can be kept in a 10 gallon aquarium. Beardies up to 12 inches should be kept in 20 gallon tanks. 20 gallon aquariums are needed for dragons longer than 12 inches.
Space
Vertical space inside the enclosure is less important than ground space. As mentioned earlier bearded dragons don’t like to climb that much. Ground space is so important because they’ll only climb trees & objects occasionally.
